WÜST MI PFLANZ’N???
In 2024, Kollektiv OutSight was invited by the Austrian Cultural Forum Cairo to perform a new adaptation of WÜST MI PFLANZ’N? in Cairo.
WÜST MI PFLANZ’N? refers to an Austrian proverb- literally translated to “Do you want to plant me?”, referring to somebody annoying somebody else.
While the installation performance in Bad Ischl (AT) focused on the local (but invasive) Japanese Knotweed, the adaptation in Egypt focused on the perception of nature in Egypt and the invasive aquatic plants in the Nile through the collaboration with Egyptian biologist Prof. Wafaa Amer.
The experimental installation of plants and sounds evolved through interaction with the audience. Visitors were invited to participate through interactive elements, including answering questions on site and triggering sounds by touching parts of the installation.
Previous research, chat histories and answered questionnaires were also part of the installation.
In addition, a panel discussion on the topic of invasive plants and the relationship between humans and nature in the city took place in the presence of Prof. Wafaa Amer and Kollektiv OutSight.
